Left with no choice, Farmers Fightback
Born for the soil, built for the fight
Our Roots in the Wallaloo and Gre Gre Alliance This campaign was born from the soil of the Wimmera, sparked by a small but determined group of families in the Wallaloo and Gre Gre District Alliance who refused to stand by as their livelihoods were mapped over by bureaucrats in city offices. What began as a local stand against the VNI West "Option 5" route has grown into a fierce defense of our region’s future. We saw firsthand how the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and government bodies treated our prime agricultural land—generations of stewardship and high-quality protein production—as merely vacant space for infrastructure. Our community faced the terrifying reality of high-voltage transmission lines cutting through our paddocks, bringing with them unacceptable biosecurity risks, dismantling our ability to use modern ag-tech, and, most critically, creating a fire hazard that would leave our volunteer brigades unable to defend our homes. We realized that if we didn’t hold the line here, no farming community was safe.
Farmers Fightback is a united national front for farmers' rights. Today, we are moving as a national organisation, uniting farmers, food producers, and rural families across Australia to preserve autonomy over our land. We are fighting back against not only reckless energy infrastructure like VNI West but also the wave of ridiculous and punitive legislation that threatens the viability of our industry. We fundamentally reject a system that steamrolls rural communities and sacrifices the very land that feeds the nation. From blocking access to Transmission Company Victoria (TCV) to challenging heavy-handed regulatory overreach, we are demanding a fair go. We stand for the right to farm without interference, ensuring that the voice of the bush is powerful enough to stop bad laws and protect intergenerational farms for the future.
